Winters Morning (Queens Gardens)

Series of shots from a cold winters morning with the sun struggling to break through. A bit of ground snow helps elevates these images transforming them into interesting compositions with shadows. The light also played an important role in how i set up this series. In all it was an experiment  of photographing the area in a different setting.

Abandoned School (Brunswick Hull)

I recently found an abandoned school in Hull that is in a bad state of disrepair. places like these intrigue me with their  unpredictable nature and the history of the place. it makes you wonder how the place looked inside when it was in use. as far as i know the school closed in 1988 and since then fires and vandals have made this place quite unstable and unsafe. while inside i found some beautiful architecture, especially the main section with the staircase. When i visit these locations i make sure i use the light to the best effect and try at all possible not to use flash, as the more natural lighting i feel works better with the overall composition. Its a shame places like these are left to ruin and not restored in any way but i guess as one place falls into total decay another is created somewhere else nearby for great photo opportunities like this.

Sculptural Chair in Studio

A series of studio shots for my final presentation, as part of my sculptural led theme over the past few months. The basis here was to create an energy of movement with using light and dark shadows to effect. My original aim was to just photograph the chair as a normal composition but then i decided to play around with lights along with filters and slow shutter speeds to create all kinds of interesting and aura inspiring compositions. This type of style bonds in well with how the chair was created in the first place with destroying a normal chair and re-welding it in a sculptural type of object that ha most of its characteristics and function abilities taken away and changed. the double light beam was created using 2 bike lights stuck together and using  15 second shutter speed i was able to move the lights around to create the shapes around the chair subject.

Lord Line Building Complex (Hull) B&W Selection

These photos were part of my final in my photography work base for the 2nd year, all of which are part of an abandoned environment and setting. My aim here was to create a subdued mood throughout the compositions , this was one of the reasons i decided to take the photos in black and white so the detail and nature of the photos could be shown more. For my final display i presented them on a plain white wall so they would be seen in there best effect. I feel that the B&W works well with this kind of environment as well, with basically everything left broken ,untouched and in a state of ruin. Abandoned buildings are probably my favourite type of subject matter to photograph at the moment, i just love the unexpected results that you can get from visiting these places as you never know what great photo opportunity is coming round the corner.

Thailand / Phuket 2008

In 2008 i visited Thailand and the island of Phuket for the first time. it was also in fact my first visit to the Far East. During my stay i was able to capture some stunning locational views from the island of Phuket mainly. This serene landscape stunned me completely with its basic primitive landscape and old architectural finesse.

Hull Fair Oct 2011

Series of slow shutter photograph shots from the 2011 Hull fair in October. My aim here was to dynamic movement of colours and subject matter within the compositions, created with the high speed rides allowing me to capture this type of imagery. I was also interested in moods of the people that went to fairs  and how they interact on and off the rides, the calm state is suddenly turned into an all out adrenaline rush when the fast moving ride begins.  This series also gave me inspiration for my project at the start of the year and how i could use photography to enhance my work further using this simpler the of energy and movement, created here.
